This is an old cloth from the White Thai people (a branch of the Thai people), an ethnic minority living in Vietnam.

The pink, squiggly pattern represents a Naga (a dragon that protects Buddha), and it shows the deep faith of the Thai people. The silk thread used for weaving the fabric is smooth to the touch, so we imagine it was a luxury item at the time.

Although the exact age is unknown, it is said to be over half a century old, and there is damage such as fading and fraying in the woven parts, discoloration and stains in the surrounding fabric, etc. The base of the woven part may appear black, but to be precise it is a slightly faded deep indigo color.

These fabrics are originally made to be used as blankets or futons, so they are quite large. They can be used as covers for sofas and other furniture, or hung from a rod to display on the wall. You can also fold these fabrics and stack them on top of each other on a stool for a beautiful look.
