This mug was manufactured for the US Navy by McNicol, of which there are apparently very few left in the U.S. These handleless mugs are called Navy Watch Mugs or Watchman's Mugs because watchmen on ships would keep their hands warm while on duty.

By the way, Corning's milk glass mugs were the most commonly produced Navy watch mugs, so they are quite well-known, but porcelain mugs were also supplied by various manufacturers other than McNicol, including Shenango, Tepco, Sterling, Victor, Jackson, and Walker.

The backstamp indicates that this item was manufactured in 1942. There are stains on the edges, sides, and inside bottom that cannot be removed, which is reflected in the price, but there is no damage such as cracks or chips.

It can be used not only as a coffee mug, but also as a soup or dessert cup, or to hold vegetable sticks. It can be used in a variety of ways, depending on your imagination. We hope that military fans and those looking for a unique ceramic mug will consider this mug.
