This is a mug from the USA Army Medical Department featuring a red caduceus emblem. Military tableware is broadly divided into Army and Navy items, with the Army producing tableware with various marks for each department, and the Navy producing tableware for each rank.
While various manufacturers, including Shenango, Homer Laughlin, Tepco, and Jackson, manufacture this product, it is manufactured by Buffalo. While Medical Department products typically feature a caduceus within a circle, Buffalo's unique design features only the caduceus without a circle.
It seems that Medical Department items have been produced since around World War II, but based on the mark on the bottom, we estimate that this mug was manufactured around the 1980s.
In terms of condition, there are small scratches and stains on the sides and a small chip on the bottom. The damage is not severe and does not interfere with use, but please be aware of this in advance. There are almost no scratches on the inside.
The handle is small, about the width of a man's finger (or two for women with thin fingers), and the cup itself is thick and heavy, as you'd expect from Buffalo. The capacity is about 230ml when filled to the brim, which is large for this type of mug.
Army tableware often has two-tone lines and marks, and is not particularly decorative, but the Medical Department mugs are well-received by our shop, which mainly sells simple mugs. While they are not in perfect condition, we have lowered the price accordingly, so we hope that customers who have been looking for them will consider purchasing one.
