This is an old cloth from the Black Thai people (a branch of the Thai people), an ethnic minority living in Vietnam.

The cloth was probably used as a futon or blanket, and is surrounded by a piece of fabric that is probably linen. The woven part is made of two pieces of fabric joined together.

It appears to date from the early to mid-1900s, and there is damage such as fading of the woven threads, rips, fraying, and stains in the surrounding fabric. The woven threads appear to have been dyed with indigo to varying degrees, and it is interesting to see how the fading varies depending on the area.

The geometric patterns, drawn using thick thread, are large and, to put it bluntly, lack precision, but they exude a kind of open-mindedness that is unique to Southeast Asia, and I personally find them very easy to relate to.

You can use them as covers for sofas and other furniture, or hang them from a rod to display on the wall. You can also fold these fabrics and stack them on top of each other on stools for a beautiful look.
