ZASSENHAUS Old Mill 156. This model has continued to be manufactured under the name Santiago even after ZASSENHAUS went bankrupt and was acquired by KUCHENPROFI in 2008, but this is a mill from the 1980s made during the West German era.
The blade is made of hard special steel, not ordinary cast iron, and grinds surprisingly smoothly with little snagging. It's durable, the shaft doesn't wobble, and it also minimizes frictional heat and fine powder. Once you try it, you'll immediately understand why it's considered the pinnacle of coffee grinders.
The mill itself is narrow, with gently concave sides, designed to be held between your knees while grinding. It's not only easy to grind, but also looks good and is compact. Its capacity is approximately 30g.
The grind can be adjusted using the screw under the handle. Turning the screw upwards will make the grind finer, and turning it downwards will make the grind coarser.
There are scratches and tarnish on the wood and metal parts, but the knife does not show signs of heavy use. The interior was completely disassembled and cleaned, the blade was polished and cleaned, and then air dried immediately. There are no chips or rust, so we think it will be a knife you can use for a long time.
