This is a trench art letter knife made during World War I. When viewed from the side, there are some wavy areas and scratches, but this slightly rough finish is what makes it so characteristic of trench art.

Trench art primarily refers to the various works that soldiers created in the trenches on the Western Front of World War I using items they had around them, such as cartridge cases and pieces of metal (although there is actually trench art dating back to the Napoleonic era and even after World War I). During the long, harsh days on the front, sometimes these works were made to pass the time, sometimes out of necessity, and some were even made as gifts for their families.

Although this item is a little rough in construction, its value as a one-of-a-kind item is immeasurable. It is in very good condition and is practical. There is a slight warp, but this does not pose any problems for use.
