Wooden carved rooster

It is a palm-sized wooden carving of a rooster. The inscription "Made by Moriji" on the bottom looks amateurish, but the design does not give the impression of being crude.

It has a subdued color, but when I looked at it with a magnifying glass, it looked like some kind of paint had been applied to the surface and was peeling off. There was also a small amount of gold-ish paint remaining in the groove of the tail, which may have been an elaborate finish.
