The Best of LIFE

When it was decided that Life would cease publication, David Sherman, the senior director, came to me, who was the last editor-in-chief, and suggested that we compile a "Best of Life" issue. (Excerpt from "On the Publication Launch")

This is the Japanese version of Life's best photo collection, selected by its staff. From its founding in 1936 until its cessation in 1972, a total of 1,864 issues were published. As a magazine centered on photography, it's not hard to imagine how arduous it must have been to select the best of the best. This collection contains just under 700 truly "best of the best" photos, each with a Japanese explanation. Additionally, it comes with a Japanese explanation of the book, brief biographies of the main photographers, and "The Year in Pictures 1972."

It was published in 1973. There are stains and sun damage on the outer box, and some stains on the book itself, but this hardcover photo book is a great value at this price. If you don't already own it, be sure to get it.
