This is thought to be a dish used as tableware in the ancient Mayan civilization. While many of these are painted, this is a rare piece with only an engraved pattern.

The design consists of two pairs of alternating faces (animals?) and what appears to be spearheads, with a geometric pattern at the top. The Mayan civilization flourished in an area spanning Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and Honduras, and based on an examination of similar Mayan vessels over their long history of over 2,000 years, this piece is believed to date from the 5th to 10th centuries.

Unfortunately, I am not an expert, so I cannot be certain about the purpose or age of the item. Therefore, the price is simply determined from the purchase price (which is probably a bargain...). Please note that although there is no soiling, there may be scratches, chips, repair marks, and cracks.
