Smiths, which began as a jewelry shop in 1851, was ahead of its time and released an automobile speedometer in 1904. It later expanded its range to include instruments for aircraft, and continued to grow.
On the other hand, Smiths began manufacturing watches in 1884 and has been making solid timepieces, but they are inevitably overshadowed by the many watches made by Swiss manufacturers. It is a little-known fact that Sir Hillary was wearing a Smiths watch when he made the first successful ascent of Mount Everest in 1953.

This is a Smiths Empire marine watch that appears to be from the 1950s or 1960s. Empire is a low-cost line that keeps costs down, so it has no unnecessary decoration, but I personally prefer this kind of extremely simple design for the hands and other parts.
While the majority of SMITHS marine clocks use Roman numerals, this one is unusual in that it uses Arabic numerals. The unassuming, simple typeface is almost endearing.

Condition: Over the decades, the dial has changed from pure white to a soft ivory. The thick crystal glass is in very good condition, with no noticeable damage aside from a few small scratches. The body is likely made of brass, and there is some tarnish, small scratches, dents, and verdigris, so please be aware of this beforehand.
When we tested the movement, it worked for about 10 days, but from the 8th day onwards, we noticed a gradual loss of time, so we recommend winding it once a week.
The time has been adjusted and is currently accurate to within ±2 minutes per day. Although the maintenance history is unknown, the accuracy is sufficient for practical use, so we hope that it will be cherished and passed on to future generations.

There are four screw holes, each at the top, bottom, left, and right, with a diameter of about 5mm. The clock itself weighs just under 1.4kg, which is quite heavy compared to a typical wall clock, so please choose a location with a sturdy base when fixing it.
Operation <br>The operation is very simple: just wind the mainspring clockwise to set the time. To set the time, turn the minute hand clockwise with your finger.
As you use the watch, you may find that the time starts to run fast or slow. If this happens, try adjusting the lever at the 12 o'clock position (F: fast, S: slow).
Size: Front diameter 16.8cm, back diameter 18.9cm, depth 8.4cm, weight 1375g
