Small measuring instrument (with wooden box)

I'd heard it was a device used to measure the pitch of fabrics, but this was my first time seeing one. By turning the screws on both ends, the lens part slides left and right. It uses flathead screws, so I imagine it's quite old.

The manufacturer is TOKYO, with the "mountain" and "yo" characters. The units of measurement are whale scale and inches. There is some dust in the lens, as well as small scratches, dullness, and marker marks, but the damage is not severe.

Although it's not something we use on a daily basis, there's something cool about specialized tools.
