The inside of the lid has the date "Showa 17" written on it, so it was probably made in 1942. The wooden box has a lovely wood and iron feel.
There are scratches, tarnish, and rust on the metal fittings, as well as holes here and there and wooden nails used in unnecessary places, so it may be that the wood was reused.
The last photo shows a postcard placed vertically. The width is just right, but the top sticks out. Perfect for organizing and storing small items.
