This mug has no handle and was used by the US Navy. It was made quite thick to ensure durability on a rocking ship. Furthermore, handles would break if they were hit, so they were not designed to have handles at all.

These types of mugs are known as "Navy Watch Mugs" or "Watchman's Mugs" because they were very useful for sailors to warm their hands while on watch on board, but because they were never produced for the general public, very few remain and they are rare.

By the way, Corning's milk glass mugs were the most commonly produced watchman's mugs, so they are quite well-known, but porcelain mugs were also supplied by various manufacturers other than Shenango, including Tepco, Sterling, Victor, Jackson, and Walker.

In terms of condition, there are some scratches on the sides, but the damage is not severe and it is in fairly good condition for a Watchman's Mug.

This particular product is thick and heavy, with a capacity of about 350ml when filled to capacity. The stamp on the bottom is rare and not found in any documents I have, but it resembles stamps from the 1920s and 1930s, so I imagine it may be from that period.

There are many ways to enjoy it, and because it is simple, it can be used in a variety of ways, such as as a coffee cup, soup cup, ice cream cup, zenzai, or vegetable stick holder.

Size : Diameter approx. 9.4cm, height approx. 9.1cm, weight 590g, capacity 350ml
