This is a very rare British mason jar from the Rylands brand. Rylands' official name is Rylands Glass and Engineering Company. There is little information available, and the details are still unclear, but it was likely manufactured by Hope Glass Works, which was founded by Ben Rylands in 1867.

The company's main business was mineral water bottles, and Mason jars were not its main focus. However, they named it "Climax," so they must have been confident in their product.

The lid is a type that fastens a glass disc with a metal ring. This type of lid, commonly seen on mason jars in the UK and Canada, has the advantage that the contents of the bottle only come into contact with the glass, making it safe for storing food.

The glass is green, a more vibrant color than the sea green found in Ball's Standard Jar and Ball Mason series.

The glass contains bubbles of various sizes, and is quite warped and wrinkled. The expression "thick and smooth" is the perfect description. This type of glass characteristic can also be seen in Mason's Patent bottles from the late 1800s and the early bottles of Kerr Self Sealing, which had just begun production in-house, but the degree of thickness is not as great as that of Rylands.

Unfortunately, details about this brand are scarce, so the exact date is unknown, but an article about a Rylands Climax bottle with a different design was published in a specialist newspaper in 1906, so it is likely that it was produced within the last 10 years or so.

Although this glass bottle was made approximately 100 years ago, it is in surprisingly good condition, with no noticeable damage other than a few small scratches on the glass. However, please note that there is a small chip on the rim.

The glass lid disc is a refreshing blue, different from the bottle itself. The metal ring had quite a bit of rust on it, so we carefully removed the rust and polished it.

This is an extremely rare Mason jar, so it is recommended as a collectible, and the glass has an attractive texture, so you can enjoy it just by displaying it.

The lid is very practical and the bottle itself is in very good condition, so we recommend using it to store coffee beans, tea leaves, pickles, sweets, and more.
