It is a thick porcelain container with a lid, and two metal rods protruding from the rim, which would have originally been used to secure the lid with screws.
It is unclear how it was used, but the inside is not glazed, so it is unlikely to have been used for storing food. I hope it can be used as a vase, small item holder, pen holder, etc. The sides are in fairly good condition, but please note that there are stains on the opening and bottom.
