PIONEER USNAVY Aircraft Tachometer

This is a tachometer used in a US Navy aircraft. It is manufactured by Pioneer Instruments, a company known for its measuring instruments. It does not stick to magnets, but I'm wondering what material it is made of.

I imagine it dates back to the 1940s, but the plate has the contract number and other information written on it, so it might be interesting to look into it.

It looks nice, so you can display it by itself, or line it up between books or CDs. I think the dirt in the grooves adds to the charm, so I only wiped the surface to a certain extent .
