This elegant rattan picnic basket with a bulging top is an old piece made between the Taisho and early Showa periods.
The basket itself is made of thin rattan that has been intricately woven, creating a dense weave. It is very darkly colored and beautifully shaped, and has a dignity that is not found in later baskets.
The interior is a lighter color than the exterior. It has ample capacity, with dimensions large enough to fit an A4 size document with ease. The height is large enough to fit a 500ml PET bottle.
We have cleaned both the inside and outside as much as possible, but there is some damage, such as cuts and blackening in the rattan and bent fasteners on the sides. Therefore, there is some concern, but since there are some types that do not come with fasteners on the sides, it should not be a major hindrance to normal use. There is also no damage to the rattan that would cause holes.
It's not suitable for carrying heavy luggage, but if you handle it carefully, it will be useful for picnics and other occasions. Of course, you can also use it to organize and store your personal belongings.
