This is an Olivetti Lettera 32 typewriter from Italy. Although it has some stains and the bottom plate is peeling, I am very grateful that the soft case is still in usable condition.
The original instruction manual and warranty card are still in place, and the previous owner purchased it in 1977. At the time, most typewriters were made of plastic, but for some reason, this Olivetti series is made of metal. It's compact in size, but it seems to be well-made.
There are some stains on the case and some dirt on the rollers, but I cleaned as much of the inside and outside as I could, and used an air compressor to remove dust and dirt from hard-to-reach areas inside. The unit is in pretty good condition, considering it was stored in a case.
Although the ink ribbon is slightly wrinkled, there is still plenty of ink remaining. The keys operate without any issues, and the notebook is in perfect condition for use.
Ink ribbons are still available at specialty stores, so you can rest assured that you can continue using it for a long time. A simple guide to using it is below, but for detailed instructions, please search for "typewriter instructions" and you will find them.
How to use <br data-mce-fragment="1">Insert the paper from the back of the roller▼
Turn the knob next to the roller to advance the paper to the position where you want to type the first character.
Adjust the left and right margins with the left and right sliders on the scale at the back▼
Move the line feed lever on the left of the roller to the right ▼
Start typing
Line breaks
If you move the line feed lever on the left of the roller to the right, the line will automatically be fed and set to the leftmost position of the next line.
Line spacing adjustment
You can adjust the line spacing using the lever to the right of the line break lever.
0 no line spacing
1 normal
2 0.5 line gap
3 One line space
Changing the ink color
If a two-color ink ribbon is installed, you can change the ink color using the lever on the right side of the keyboard (no printing will occur if the lever is centered).
