This is an old thread spool that was used in a factory. It has a sturdy construction with metal discs fixed to both ends of a wooden shaft. It was originally set in a wooden box (see the last photo).
There are some small scratches and stains, but it doesn't look dirty. You can display it as is. You can also use the hole in the disc to hold a pencil or a dry eraser.
