Founded in 1923 as the Nemadji Tile and Pottery Company, the company produced tiles but changed course after the Great Depression of 1929 and began making ceramic products for tourists.
The greatest feature of Nemaji pottery is its unique pattern, which is achieved by a technique called cold stripe painting. First, enamel is poured into a vat filled with glaze, and then a pattern is created by blowing on it, and then the pottery is immersed in the enamel to create the pattern.
The clay used is apparently collected from the Nemaji River, but this piece is made of a rather reddish clay and the design is in warm colors.
There are some unevenness from the manufacturing process, some small scratches and some darkening, but they are not noticeable and the product is in good condition.
