The Mohs scale is a measure of mineral hardness. Hardness is divided into 10 levels, with a mineral designated as an index for each level. This educational set contains these 10 minerals in a wooden box.
The indicator minerals are as follows:
Hardness 1 Talc hardness 2 Gypsum hardness 3 Calcite hardness 4 Fluorite hardness 5 Apatite hardness 6 Feldspar hardness 7 Quartz hardness 8 Jade hardness 9 Corundum hardness 10 Diamond
When checking the hardness of a mineral, you rub the mineral you want to check against the minerals in these hardness testers to see what level of hardness it falls on. Although it is called a hardness tester, it is not an electronic device; these 10 minerals make up the hardness tester.
There is an instruction manual on the inside of the lid, and a knife and sharpening stand are included. Some stones are stored in plastic cases or plastic bags. Please be aware that small particles may fall off.
