This ceramic grater was made in Seto during the Edo period. After being shaped into a plate on a potter's wheel, the edges and sides were cut to create the desired shape.
The handle has the character "U" engraved on it, but its meaning is unknown. It has natural glaze in places. There are some chips and scrapes on the edges, but the damage is not severe. After cleaning, it was boiled and sterilized. I think it would look great serving pickles and other dishes in this dish.
