In 1858, John Landis Mason, a foundry worker, invented a system for sealing a glass jar by threading the top of the jar with a lid, and patented it as a Mason jar. At the time, the only ways to preserve food were by drying, pickling, or smoking, so the Mason jar quickly became popular .
After the patent expired in 1879, various manufacturers began making Mason jars, but until the 1910s, exact copies of John Landis Mason's jars were commonly made. These jars all have the words "MASON'S PATENT NOV 30TH 1858" on the side, but the manufacturer and exact production date of this jar, as well as this one, are unknown.
The glass color of this item is sea green with a blue tint, and there are wrinkles and bubbles on the surface. In terms of condition, there are small scratches and a chip on the rim, but there is little noticeable damage, and considering its age, it can be said to be in good condition.
The included lid is made by Ball and is polished to a certain extent, but if you want to use it to store coffee beans, seasonings, etc., you can replace it with a clean lid. The opening is a regular mouth size.
