Hand-winding bell

It's a very simple machine that just winds up the spring to ring the bell. The bell stops when you insert the L-shaped key. The round gold button just holds the lid in place and has no function.

The sound is similar to that of an old alarm clock, with a "chirri-chirri" sound, and the size is about the same as an old alarm clock case.

I wonder how it was used. When my children are having trouble waking up in the morning, I might try placing this quietly by their pillow.
