This is a mason jar from the Improved series by Kilner, a British company that has been making food storage jars since its founding in 1842.
Currently, Kilner mason jars use lids that have a "thin metal lid + ring" structure, similar to Ball and other brands, but the Improved series uses a glass lid that is fastened with a metal ring.
This series was produced from 1948 to 1969, and was contracted to United Glass Bottle Manufacturers. The glass is in good condition, with some minor scratches, but no cracks, chips, or noticeable stains. The metal ring that fastens the lid has some rust, but the surface has been polished so it is not noticeable to the touch.
The size is 2lb (2 pounds), but the actual volume is just over 800ml. The glass has small bubbles and wrinkles, giving it the flavor unique to old glass.
