Folding Candle Lantern

This is a Japanese-made foldable candle lantern. It comes with a candle case and bag. The bag is labeled "foldable square candle bag," so it's definitely a pre-war item.

Although it is not particularly thick, both the lantern and the candle case are made of steel, and it seems to be well-made for a folding lantern of this type. I think it may have been made by the Japanese military, but I cannot be sure.

The candle is inserted from the bottom and pinched in place, but you can also enjoy it as a freestanding tea candle. The celluloid on the front can be opened and closed, making it easy to light and extinguish.

The lantern is slightly tilted forward, but I guess that's how it's designed. The handle on top of the lantern has come off (see the fifth photo; it still works). There are some small scratches, light stains, and a bent candle, but nothing too bad, and apart from the handle, it's in good condition. I hope you enjoy using it.
