Mortars come in a variety of materials, including ceramic, wood, marble, and stainless steel, but in the past, iron ones were also made. Although it is not possible to determine the exact age, we estimate that they date from the 1800s to the early 1900s at the latest.
I heard it's from France, but there's no markings or anything. The body sits on a base, and the opening is slightly curved outward.
There is some rust on the bottom and inner bottom, but the previous owner apparently filled it with potpourri, which is probably why there is not much rust. It is a wonderful piece that can be enjoyed just by displaying it as is.
