This sculpture of a walrus arching its body is the work of artist Sipporait Peterloosie from Pond Inlet, located in the northern part of Nunavut, Canada, just before Greenland. Its soft green color resembles that of kusamochi (Japanese mochi rice cake), and it is likely made of soapstone.
There is a U-shape carved into the upper rear and eyes carved into the left and right sides, so I wonder if it could be a whale when viewed from behind. I can't be sure, but in any case, it is an interesting piece.
There is a handwritten label on the bottom, but the age is unknown. Due to the nature of the material, there are crack-like patterns and scratches on the bottom, but no significant damage such as chips. The bag is quite large, weighing just under 1 kg.
