This automatic fly catcher was released in 1919 by the watch manufacturer Owari Tokei. When the mainspring is wound, a square shaft rotates. The square shaft is coated with a mixture of vinegar (sake) and sugar, attracting flies, who are then drawn into the net inside as the machine rotates. It was such a big hit at the time that imitations were spawned, and it was still in production until the early Showa period.
This item comes with a stand and handle, which appear to have been added later. The key to turn the spring is not included. There are scratches and rust, and unfortunately the spring is broken, so it is only suitable as an ornament.
Size: Base width approx. 27cm, depth 28.5cm
Height including handle: 19.2cm
