Three-legged stools are more stable than four-legged ones on uneven ground, so these stools have been made all over Europe since ancient times. Dairy farmers in particular used these stools for tasks such as milking, so they came to be called milk stools or shepherd's stools, and they have become a source of inspiration for designers.
This stool was made in France around the 1940s or 1950s. It's unclear whether it was actually used by dairy farmers, but it's simple and rustic.
There are some scratches and stains, but no serious damage. The legs have been reassembled, so there is no wobbling and it is still usable.
