Chinshi are sinkers that are attached to fishing nets to keep them submerged in the water. They are often oval in shape or shaped like a slightly stretched egg, and come in a variety of sizes. They are used by threading a rope through the hole in the middle, and it seems that this shape was introduced from the continent during the Yayoi period.

This is a small, ceramic sinker in fairly good condition. It is reddish-brown in color. It has been thoroughly cleaned, but as it is an old item that was actually used, there may be some tarnish or chipping. Please note that there may be individual differences in size and color.

You can display it as is, or use it as a pen holder or toothbrush stand, or to hold small dried flowers or incense, the rest is up to your imagination.
