This is a wooden distribution box (breaker box) that was attached to the wall of an old Japanese house. The front door is glass and the interior is lined with black painted metal plates. There are three holes for wiring on the top and bottom, and only one remnant of an insulating porcelain tube remains in the bottom hole.

It dates back to the early Showa period and shows signs of damage such as scratches, discoloration, cloudy glass, and partial rust on the metal plates, but the damage is not severe.

Apparently these types of breaker boxes are installed in fairly high-end homes, but this is the second one I've been able to get hold of. At first glance, it looks like nothing special, but it's a very rare wooden box, so it would make a great display piece for something you really love. It can be used either upright or lying down, and it would also look great mounted on a wall.
