This is a current transformer from FUSO, a manufacturer of scientific and laboratory equipment. It's also called a current transformer, and according to Wikipedia, it's "an electronic component that converts alternating current." I'd never seen it before, nor had I ever heard of it, but there's something about it that really draws me in. I did a quick Google search, and it seems that this type of glass combination is rare. It's only suitable as an object, just like the large insulators, though.
