Thick porcelain mugs are called heavy mugs because they are heavy, but Mason jars from the UK up until around the 1950s have thick, heavy glass, so we call them heavy jars.

The current 32oz Ball Jar weighs in at around 300g, while the same size Kilner Original weighs around 700g. However, the British jar we are introducing here weighs a whopping 800g.

There are no markings on either the lid or the bottom, so the manufacturer is unknown, but judging from the shape of the lid it is clearly made in England and I imagine it is quite old, dating from around the 1940s.

The lid is a glass lid that fastens with a metal ring, just like the old Kilner jars, and is still very practical today. This type of lid ensures that the contents of the jar only come into contact with the glass, making it safe for storing food.

The glass has wrinkles and irregularities, giving it the feel of an ancient piece. It's in very good condition, with only minor scratches. Unfortunately, there's a chip in the glass lid, and the plating on the metal ring has peeled, but there's no rust or other signs of wear, so it's perfectly usable. The capacity is approximately 680ml up to the narrow end of the lid.

The containers are kept in a clean condition that is practical for practical use, so we hope you will enjoy using them to store coffee beans, tea leaves, sweets, seasonings, and more.
