This is a light made by attaching a socket and cord to an old bicycle light. It is a carbide light made by Miller in the UK, and I imagine it was imported along with bicycles during the Meiji period.
The sides are fitted with green cut glass, and it is a very elaborate design that is different from Japanese products. There is some rust and tarnish, and it cannot be used as a tabletop, but the design more than makes up for this.
The cord is 4m long and has an on/off switch. The bulb size is E12. To replace it, remove the hook on the left side and open the front cover.
