The shaving cups that barbers use to shave were originally introduced from Europe and the United States, but the two-layer shaving cups you see in Japanese barber shops are apparently unique to Japan.
One layer is for adding soap and lathering, and the other layer is for adding boiling water to keep the lathered soap warm. The layer for adding soap has grooves on the bottom to improve lathering.
This is a long introduction, but this porcelain shaving cup has the words "Fujimoto-style thermal cup, new design registered" written on the bottom. The character "registered" is in the old style, so it probably dates back to before the 1950s. The condition is very good, with some stains and a slight darkening on the bottom, but no damage such as cracks or chips.
It can be used as a shaving cup, a pen holder, a clip holder, or even to grow a cactus.
