The commonly seen mason jar lids from brands like Ball and Kerr are made of a thin metal lid that is fastened with a ring, but in the past, metal lids called "zinc caps" with milk glass fitted inside were commonly used.

The lids used on current mason jars are disposable, so although they are inexpensive, they have the disadvantage of being prone to rust. However, zinc caps are made from zinc, so they are less likely to rust, and most vintage mason jars come with these zinc caps.

The zinc caps introduced on this page are made by Ball and are sized for regular mouths. Regular mouth caps can also be used with other brands of mason jars (please feel free to ask if you have any questions about the size).

The surface has fine lines and is not very shiny ( the glossy, non-striated version is available here ). Attaching a Rubber Ring further improves the airtightness, making it recommended for storing food.

Although this item is unused, please note that due to long-term storage, there may be small scratches, dullness, and marks on the surface (it has been cleaned).
