This stand lamp uses a ball joint at the base, which is unusual for a Japanese product. It was rusted to the point that the color was no longer visible, but I saw its potential and polished it up, and it looks great now. It has a simple and rugged impression, but the texture of the material really stands out.

The plate reads "Asahi-type variable adjustable work light, Osaka Asahi Electric Seiko Co., Ltd." Although it is written left to right, the old font and flathead screws suggest it dates to the 1940s or 1950s.

First of all, the disappointing thing is that the ON/OFF switch next to the socket was missing, so I had to attach a switch halfway down the cord. Also, although the socket is supposed to have a shade attached to the end, the shade was not included.

So, it's a simple stand lamp, but each part has a worn texture and it has a presence even as it is. Of course, you can find a shade that fits, or you can enjoy it with an Edison bulb (see the last two images).

The arm is slightly angled from just above the ball joint. The firmness of the ball joint can be adjusted using the three flathead screws around the periphery. The neck can also be adjusted up and down by approximately 160°. The cord and plug have been replaced with new ones. The bulb size is a standard E26 (sold separately).
