This is a collection of works from Antarctica by photographer Yoshikazu Shirakawa, who has continued to capture the majestic nature of the planet with the theme of "Recovering humanity through rediscovery of the Earth."
This collection of works, representing the first circumnavigation of Antarctica in human history, became the world's first photo book to capture the entirety of the continent. After its publication in 1995, it won the Japan Art Award . The scale of this collection can be seen from the forewords written by Prince Philip and Sir Edmund Hillary.
Filming took place over a three-year period, from 1991 to 1993. However, the planning and negotiations leading up to that point took nearly 20 years, and the story of this (included at the end of the book) is also very interesting to read.
It is in good condition, and the cover covering the outer box is still in place. It appears to have only been opened a few times, but please note that there is some damage to the cover and outer box.
The retail price at the time was 39,000 yen for each volume. I think the large hardcover edition could probably only be found in libraries .
