This book provides a detailed introduction to the Ringling Brothers circus, from its inception to just before the book's publication (1884-1957). When they acquired the Barnum & Bailey Circus in 1919, the company's workforce exceeded 1,500, a scale that is beyond imagination.
The book was written over a five-year period, and interviews with 40 Ringling Brothers performers and staff members were conducted to provide a wide range of information, from the lives of the performers and animals to the darker aspects of the show, such as accidents and strikes. The photographs featured in the book were carefully selected from over 4,000 images collected specifically for the book. The text is in English, but the photographs alone are a fascinating read.
Published in 1958. Please note that the cover is quite damaged and there are stains within the pages.
By the way, the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus continues to perform to this day, despite many twists and turns.
