About the capacity of Victor mugs

Vintage Victor Mug

Victor mugs are very thick and durable , a feature inherited from the first Victor mugs made for the US Navy during World War II, and which became a big hit with restaurants and diners after the war.

The thick construction also contributes to its weight, and the weight that you feel in your fingers when you pick it up is a unique feature of Victor, but it also has another characteristic: its capacity is significantly smaller than that of a mug of the same size.

The capacity of the Victor mug is roughly 150ml for the small size, 170ml for the medium size, and 220ml for the large size, but these are only the amounts poured to the brim. The actual amount poured when drinking coffee is about 30-40ml less than the above capacity . That means the middle size, the medium size, is about 130ml. That's quite small. But I personally like sipping slowly from this heavy mug that only holds a little.
