iron ingot

We will be closed on Tuesday, May 21st. Please be careful.

Today I have three pieces that look like lumps of iron.

U-shaped base (backing metal)
This is a "Uji-doko" (backing metal) used in forging. It was covered in rust, but we polished it off and applied beeswax and polished it up.

Iron square bar
It is a 2.4cm x 2.4cm square piece of iron. I wonder how it was used. The plating on the surface has peeled off in just the right way.

I've looked into it in various ways, but I couldn't find anything. It's just under 50cm long and weighs just under 17kg, so I think it might be a part of heavy machinery.
